China Women’s University (CWU) held its 11th arts festival, also the performance of art group at the auditorium on December 1. The event was co-sponsored by the group and the CWU Youth League Committee.

Some 500 students watched the show, along with the executive director of the Trade Union, secretaries of the General Branches from different schools and departments, as well as the secretary of the Youth League General Branch.

The enthusiastic and dynamic show of “The Dance of Youth” marked the event. The “Red Skirts under the Sun”, which won second place in the Beijing Dance Festival for College Students was also well received. The show gave audiences a feeling of so-called “left-behind children’s” longing for love. It had a unique layout and vividly portrayed the dancers’ spirituality. During the performance of “Cocoon into Butterfly”, the commanding voices and superb acting of those onstage skillfully recreated the atmosphere of war time.

Afterward, hip-hop performers kindled the audiences’ enthusiasm with their solid skills in “High School”. Then, an orchestra of traditional instruments played koto, erhu and flute, and touched the audiences’ emotions. Two advisory members of the Arts Group performed a duet called “Longwen”, and received much applause. The closing ceremony ended up with the song “Fly with Dream”, which had previously won the CWU annual chorus competition.

Since it started, the 11th art festival included the third Top Ten Singers Competition, the second Instrumental Music Contest, the second Diplomatic Protocol Competition, and several other activities. Its innovative organization and experience attracted extensive attention from teachers and students. It greatly enriched the campus life and culture, created a positive and healthy atmosphere, provided a stage for all the teachers and students to show themselves, and presented CWU students’ vigorous mental outlook.

The CWU Arts Group, set up in 2012, is a breeding ground for artistic practice, and a fertile field of education for all-round development. It consists of a dance team, a music band, the so-called Poppy Crew, a modern drama group, an etiquette team, along with four other groups.

During the recent Dance Festival for College Students in Beijing, all three dances selected by the CWU Arts Group won second prize honors.
